# Skyblock: getting started

Skyblock is a long-form gamemode. You start on a small island, complete quests, unlock resources, and expand into new dimensions.

## Start playing

1. Join CubeCraft.
2. Walk to the Skyblock portal in the lobby.
3. You'll automatically be placed into profile slot 1.
4. Talk to the Skyblock Helper to start completing quests.

## Your first hour

1. **Open the quest menu** with `/skyblock quests`. Quests are the spine of the gamemode: almost everything else unlocks through them.
2. **Complete the first island's quests.** You need them finished before you can reach the Skyblock Hub, and the Hub is where optimizers and most services live.
3. **Build up your ore generators.** They produce progressively more valuable resources, from coal up to emerald.

## Stuck in the Skyblock Hub

If you cannot move, have fallen somewhere you cannot climb out of, or simply cannot find your way back, you do not need to disconnect.

1. Open the Skyblock menu.
2. Select **Return to Spawn** in the bottom left corner.

You are placed back at the Hub spawn point. Nothing in your inventory or on your island is affected.

## Worth knowing early

||| Items dropped into the void are gone. We cannot retrieve them. If it was a main quest item, you may have to restart the island to continue.
