# Staying safe on CubeCraft

More than 400,000 people play on CubeCraft every day, and many of them are young. This article is about keeping yourself and your account safe.

## Never share personal information

Do not give out your real name, address, school, phone number, email, or social media accounts. This applies to friendly conversations as much as hostile ones. Someone being nice to you for a week does not make them safe.

|| Check your username and email address too. If your gamertag is your real name, or your email is `firstname.lastname.2013@…`, you are sharing personal information every time you play.

||| Nobody from Team CubeCraft will ever ask for your password, your Microsoft login, or your appeal code. If someone does, they are pretending to be us. Report them.

## Blocking someone

You never need a reason, and you never need to prove anything first. Block first, decide later.

| Where | How |
| ---- |
| **Java** | `/ignore add <username>` |
| **Bedrock** | Press pause, select the player, choose **Block** |
| **Discord, forums, social media** | Open their profile and select **Ignore** or **Block** |

On Java, ignoring someone blocks everything from them: messages, friend requests, party invites and duel challenges. Not just chat.

## Safety settings

Both editions let you decide who can reach you at all. Worth setting up once, before anything happens.

**Java:** open your **Profile**, then **Settings**. You can toggle player visibility, friend and party requests, and public and private chat.

**Bedrock:** open the **Social Menu**, then **Settings**. You can toggle player visibility, friend and party requests, and public chat.

|| Turning off public chat does not stop you playing. You can still play every game, and still talk to friends. If chat is stressing you out, switch it off for a while.

## Keeping your account safe

* **Use a password you have not used anywhere else.**
* **Turn on two-step verification** on the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft.
* **Never enter your Minecraft or Microsoft login on any site that is not Microsoft's.**

||| Do not share your account, including with a sibling or a friend. You are responsible for everything that happens on it. If they break the rules, your account is punished. See [My account has been compromised].

## Free rank and giveaway scams

||| No site that offers you free ranks, Minecoins, capes or currency in exchange for your login is real. Every one of them is taking your account. There is no exception to this.

## Never open unknown files or links

If someone you do not know sends you a file or a link, do not open it. You cannot tell what it does by looking at it, and some exist to take your account or your IP address.

This includes links from someone friendly, and links that claim to be a screenshot, a video, a map or a resource pack.

## If you are a parent

* **Chat and multiplayer can be restricted** through Microsoft Family Safety and your console's parental controls. These sit above anything set in game, so they cannot be switched off from inside Minecraft.
