# How do I update to Java 1.21.8 or above?

This article will help you learn how to update your Minecraft Java version to 1.21.8 or above. In order to update your Java Minecraft game you must have a legal copy of Minecraft: Java Edition.

### How do I update?

* Open your Minecraft Client, this is also known as "Minecraft Launcher".

* Click on the 'Installations' tab.

* Click on 'New' and add a name for your new version.
* Select the version you would like use, you can choose between 1.21.8 and up

* Return to the play tab and select the version you want to play.
